We discuss what it is and how to face its first use.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What is <em>Privileged Identity Management<\/em> (PIM)?<\/h2>\n<p>One of the most suitable <strong>Azure resources<\/strong> to prevent cyber attacks and data theft. It is part of <strong>Azure Active Directory<\/strong> and is responsible for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Control, monitor, and manage<\/strong> access to a company&#8217;s resources.<\/li>\n<li>Determine <strong>who can and can&#8217;t use<\/strong> tools like Azure AD, Microsoft Intune, or Microsoft 365.<\/li>\n<li>Make <em><br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/pasiona.com\/en\/services\/cloud-computing\/\">cloud computing<\/a><br \/>\n<\/em> <strong>a more reliable option<\/strong>. The goal is to prevent a user from accessing customer data or a specific resource. That is, it is the management of the company that grants specific access to each tool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is the use of <em>Privileged Identity Management<\/em>?<\/h2>\n<p>The main one is to activate the role of each person in the organization. To do this, the following options are offered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create <em><br \/>\n  <strong>just-in-time<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em> access so you can enjoy Azure AD for a specific amount of time.<\/li>\n<li>Specify that it is necessary <strong>to approve privileged access<\/strong> by the company.<\/li>\n<li>Bet on <strong>multi-factor authentication<\/strong> for all types of roles.<\/li>\n<li>Justify why specific <strong>access<\/strong> has been granted to each user.<\/li>\n<li>Know when the system has been accessed with <strong>privileges<\/strong> .<\/li>\n<li>Review <strong>each person&#8217;s access<\/strong> and improve it if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Create an <strong>audit history<\/strong> for later review.<\/li>\n<li>Do not delete <strong>role assignments related to<\/strong> global administration and those with privileged access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do I set up PIM?<\/h2>\n<p>Simply access the corresponding tab in Azure Directory. Inside there are three options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Manage access<\/strong>. Simply include the corresponding users.<\/li>\n<li>Enable <em><br \/>\n  <strong>Just-in-Time<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em>. The process is the same as the previous one, but the date of the start and end of access must be specified.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Detect and monitor<\/strong>. It allows to obtain a complete report of the activity that has been carried out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The left control panel<\/h2>\n<p>To perform the above tasks it is essential to use the control panel on the left. It has the following options:<\/p>\n<h3>My roles<\/h3>\n<p>It offers a list of the roles that can be granted and the assets when the tool is in use. From here it is possible to grant the role you want to each future user more easily.<\/p>\n<h3>Pending applications<\/h3>\n<p>When assigning an eligible role, there may be some requests left to be addressed. All are filed in this section for proper management.<\/p>\n<h3>Approve requests<\/h3>\n<p>A complete list of requests made by Azure Directory users appears. It is the person in charge of assigning the roles who decides which one to approve or disapprove.<\/p>\n<h3>Review access<\/h3>\n<p>Includes a numbered list of assigned and incomplete active access revisions. It is time to assign the desired role and click on &#8220;next&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Under &#8221; <strong>assignment type&#8221;,<\/strong> within &#8220;membership settings&#8221;, you must select between &#8220;active&#8221; or &#8220;eligible&#8221;. The first option does not require additional action. The second involves a multi-factor check or pre-approval for access.<\/li>\n<li>For temporary access, you must add a start and end <strong>date and time box<\/strong> .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Assigning restricted roles and updating each role<\/h3>\n<p>The form of assignment is as indicated above, but there are some aspects that we must clarify:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The process begins <strong>by selecting the group or user<\/strong> to which the role will be assigned.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>scope of the role<\/strong> must also be selected.<\/li>\n<li>It is mandatory to specify the <strong>administrative unit<\/strong> of the scope.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also possible to upgrade each role. It is necessary to take into account the steps detailed in the sections that are now explained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Azure AD <em>Privileged Identity Management<\/em> must be opened.<\/li>\n<li>You have to select <strong>the option &#8220;Azure AD roles&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Roles&#8221;<\/strong> must be clicked.
