Pasiona, host of the social hackathon Hack the Gap for accessibility

Equipo Comunicacion 24/10/2018

Last weekend we witnessed and hosted a very special hackathon: Hack the Gap, organized by Factoría F5.

In it, a group of programmers from several bootcamps in Barcelona got their hands on the code to develop customized solutions that facilitate accessibility. To do this, they relied on projects designed by the team of Specialisterne Spain, a technological development consultancy that employs people with Asperger’s Syndrome/Autism (ASD).

Given the theme of the hackathon, our collaboration with Factoría F5 in several projects and our line of action in terms of facilitating training and sharing knowledge, we have been the proud hosts of the event, putting our offices in the 22@ district at the disposal of the organization. In addition, our colleague Juanjo Montiel, responsible for Accessibility, acted as master of ceremonies of the hackathon. The winners were the members of the Care Helper project team for the care of the elderly, pictured above.

The hackathon has been framed within the European programming week in collaboration with the Meet & Code 2018 contest, and has been promoted by Factoría F5, an inclusive school that gives free training in technological development to people with various inclusion problems, with which we also maintain a continuous collaboration.

We will continue to support initiatives like this and work hard to make universal accessibility in technology a reality. Go ahead!
