A real commitment to inclusive technology: the Pasiona website reaches the AA level of accessibility

We start the year with great news. As a software development company that is committed to inclusive technology, we have adapted our website so that it is accessible according to the criteria of level AA of the WCAG 2.0 standard.

A step that confirms our firm defense, on principle, of the development of technology that guarantees universal access without the conditions of temporary or permanent disabilities being a limitation or barrier.

The Pasiona web accessibility project has been developed by the Mimetizo team, our new brand of UX / UI Design and Accessibility. Contrast and colors, font size, alt tags and headers, consistent identification of components or responsive navigation are some of the compliance criteria on which they have worked to guarantee an accessible Pasiona website. The result: a navigable page for anyone with permanent disabilities, such as blindness; as temporary, in cases such as conjunctivitis or a plastered arm.

Gustavo Ramírez, Accessibility Specialist at Pasiona

Making Pasiona’s website accessible has been “a very interesting project to have to work on an existing site that was not accessible and that had already been in operation for several years,” says Gustavo Ramírez , blind programmer, specialist in Accessibility and part of the team involved. With this challenge on the table and “thanks to a multidisciplinary team,” he adds, “we achieved a site accessible to everyone.”

“You never know who’s going to visit your site, so you have to be well prepared for the user to have the best experience possible.” From a more personal perspective, Gustavo confesses that it has been a project of “a lot of emotional charge” and that “it is only the beginning of a much larger transformation process in Pasiona, and that makes me very excited”. As a project, Gustavo advances, it will evolve over time and new features and content will be incorporated that will continue to be accessible”.

Making your website accessible, a legal requirement

Web accessibility has ceased to be a purely ethical issue to become a legal obligation. The challenge of ensuring a fully accessible website can be approached from two prisms, attending to the starting point. You can develop a website from scratch and based on the criteria set by the standards, or adapt an existing website to make it accessible. As explained by our head of Accessibility, Juanjo Montiel, “fortunately a website is not a building that has to break walls to make it accessible”, the web can be “adapted to accessibility criteria without the cost or size of the project skyrocketing”.
