Safer Internet Day 2019: Minors Safe in a Control Environment

With an increasingly widespread use of smartphones in children, even common in children of 2 and 3 years, the guarantee of a Secure Internet is an increasingly priority requirement.

As a result of our project to develop an application launcher with parental control for the NGO Educo with our Mobile team, we opened our eyes to a situation that is a real challenge: how to control the use that our children make of the Internet? Eight out of ten parents do not know the answer to that question, that is, they do not know how to control what children do when they browse their tablets or smartphones, an increasingly common activity. In technology, in addition to education, may be the key.
Today, February 5, Safer Internet Day 2019 is celebrated, an event that takes place every year in order to promote the safe and positive use of new digital technologies, especially for children and young people. “A better Internet starts with you: living together with respect for a safe Internet.” This is the motto of 2019 with the aim of celebrating and defending the positive character of the Internet. Safer Internet Day (SID) targets children and young people, parents and guardians, teachers, educators and social workers, but also businesses and policy makers, encouraging them to actively participate in creating a better internet.
With a global and community approach, SID 2019 encourages us to join and contribute to the movement, from various approaches.

• Children and young people can help in creating a better Internet by being respectful of others.
• Parents and guardians play a key role in motivating and instilling in their children a responsible, respectful, critical and creative use of technology.
• Teachers, educators and social workers can contribute to the creation of a better Internet by empowering their pupils and students with computer skills and helping them develop skills that encourage critical thinking, which will enable them to better navigate the Internet.
• Companies can collaborate in the creation of a better Internet by creating positive content and promoting secure services on the network. In addition, it is in our hands to encourage users to be able to deal with the problems they encounter by providing security tools such as the Educo launcher developed by Pasiona, which are easy to use by parents and minors and also guarantee #accesibilidad.
• Policy makers and leaders must provide an environment in which all the above groups can work and progress, forming with educational plans, giving adequate information and sources of support, self-regulating content and services.

Security, respect and support for initiatives that contribute to a safer Internet are key to Pasiona’s philosophy. The development with Educo, a project of great social significance, is another example of what technology can do to guarantee the steps towards a safer and better digital world.
